DUBAI (Reuters) - The head of Dubai airline Emirates urged Boeing to pick an engineering and business heavyweight to lead a deep overhaul of the U.S. aerospace giant and said the task of ending the planemaker's recent confidence crisis "must get done".

David Levy, Mizrahi immigrant turned top Israeli diplomat, dead at 86 Jun 2, 2024 01:35PM

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Former Israeli foreign minister David Levy, whose rise from manual labourer to the international stage inspired fellow Mizrahi Jews of Middle Eastern descent, died on Sunday aged 86.

Born in Rabat, Levy was among a wave of Moroccan Jews who moved to Israel in its early years. Many felt sidelined by the mainly Ashkenazi, or European Jewish, leadership - an ethnic resentment that resurfaced in a recent constitutional crisis.

Europe needs to invest more in defence production, Airbus CEO says Jun 2, 2024 01:35PM

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Europe must work more closely on defence projects and raise investment in production capacity, the chief executive of Airbus told a German newspaper.

Guillaume Faury told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the European Union was buying five times less armaments than the United States and that up to three quarters of those were not produced in Europe but mostly in America.

Turkey's Pegasus to begin work soon on new plane order for delivery beyond 2029 Jun 2, 2024 01:34PM

DUBAI (Reuters) - Turkey's Pegasus Airlines will in the coming months begin work on its next plane order as it looks to continue its fast-paced growth into the next decade, the budget carrier's CEO told Reuters on Sunday.

Pegasus, which has seen a rapid recovery in travel after the pandemic, placed an order for 36 Airbus A321neo planes in July 2023, taking its total orders since 2012 to 150.

UK Labour's Abbott says she intends to run in election Jun 2, 2024 01:20PM

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's first Black woman lawmaker, Diane Abbott, said on Sunday she intended to run for the Labour Party in a July 4 national election, after confusion over her candidacy marked one of the first missteps in the opposition party's campaign.
