Ukraine's debt woes during wartime Jun 18, 2024 12:05AM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ukraine has suffered a setback in its quest to complete the outline of a debt restructuring before the end-of-August expiry of a two-year payment freeze agreed by private holders of near $20 billion in outstanding international bonds.

The government announced on Monday it had not reached agreement with a group of bondholders, raising the specter that the war-torn country might slip into default.

NATO targets AI, robots and space tech in $1.1 billion fund Jun 18, 2024 12:02AM

LONDON (Reuters) - A consortium of NATO allies has confirmed the first tranche of companies awarded funding as part of the group’s one billion euro ($1.1 billion) innovation fund.

The alliance unveiled the fund in the summer of 2022, months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, promising to invest in technologies that would enhance its defences. The fund is backed by 24 of NATO's 32 member states, including Finland and... (continue reading...)


Oil depots on fire in Russia's Rostov region after drone attack Jun 18, 2024 12:02AM

(Reuters) - Several oil storage tanks were on fire after a drone attack early on Tuesday in the town of Azov in Russia's southern region of Rostov, officials said.

"According to preliminary data, there are no casualties," Vasily Golubev, governor of the Rostov region that borders Ukraine, wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Taiwan keeping watch after Chinese submarine surfaces in Taiwan Strait Jun 17, 2024 10:55PM

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan's defence minister said on Tuesday that they have a "grasp" of the situation after pictures appeared online of a Chinese nuclear submarine surfacing in the sensitive Taiwan Strait near Taiwanese fishermen.

Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes Northern Peru region, GFZ says Jun 17, 2024 10:53PM

(Reuters) - A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the northern region of Peru, on Monday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said. The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), GFZ said.
