NEW DELHI (Reuters) - With new photographic and video evidence, an Indian court battle over the origins of the world famous butter chicken is set to get spicier.

Two police officers killed in suspected Jemaah Islamiah attack in Malaysia May 17, 2024 04:01AM

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Two police officers were killed and another was injured in Malaysia's Johor state on Friday morning, when they were attacked by a man suspected of being a member of the Al Qaeda-linked militant group Jemaah Islamiah (JI), officials said.

JI is a militant group seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate in Southeast Asia.

Xpeng says US tariffs on Chinese EV detrimental to meeting carbon neutrality May 17, 2024 03:55AM

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng said on Friday new U.S. tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EV) are detrimental to achieving carbon neutrality and green energy transition.

Brian Gu, Xpeng vice chairman and president, also said he hopes the United States can become more open, allowing global products to enter and compete in the U.S. market.

Belgium's Ghent university severs ties with three Israeli institutions May 17, 2024 03:54AM

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgium's University of Ghent (UGent) is severing ties with three Israeli educational or research institutions which it says no longer align with UGent's human rights policy, its rector said.

Pro-Palestinian protesters in Ghent have been protesting against Israel's military offensive in Gaza and have been occupying parts of the university since early this month.

Technology leads European shares lower, rate cut doubts loom May 17, 2024 03:37AM

(Reuters) - European shares kicked off Friday's trade on a weaker note, led by declines in technology and real-estate companies, as investors looked forward to euro zone inflation data for some clarity on the path for interest rate cuts beyond June.

The pan-European STOXX 600 dipped 0.2% as of 0715 GMT, but was on track for its second straight weekly advance owing to a robust corporate earnings season.
