France gets $16 billion of foreign investments as part of 'Choose France' event May 13, 2024 12:02AM

PARIS (Reuters) - This year's "Choose France" event - an annual summit aimed at attracting foreign investment to France - will result in 15 billion euros ($16.2 billion) worth of foreign investments, said the French presidency on Monday.

That amount represents an increase from last year's summit, which brought in 13 billion euros worth of foreign investments.

President Emmanuel Macron kicks off the event on Monday.

Australia to boast budget surplus, eye inflation's earlier return to target May 12, 2024 11:58PM

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's government is expected to boast another surplus in its annual budget due on Tuesday, courtesy of strong employment and high commodity prices, giving it cash to afford more cost of living relief and industry incentives.

Philippine coast guard won't allow China reclamation at disputed shoal, official says May 12, 2024 11:37PM

MANILA (Reuters) -The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is committed to sustaining a presence in a disputed area of the South China Sea to ensure China does not carry out reclamation activities at the Sabina Shoal, its spokesperson said on Monday.

The PCG said on Saturday it has deployed ships to Sabina Shoal, where it accused China of building an artificial island, amid an escalating maritime row.

Georgia police push protesters away ahead of 'foreign agent' bill debate, Russia's TASS reports May 12, 2024 11:23PM

(Reuters) - Georgia's police have begun pushing away demonstrators who staged an all-night rally at parliament in Tbilisi ahead of a lawmakers' debate of a "foreign agents" bill that has sparked a political crisis, Russia's TASS news agency reported on Monday.

Australian regulator investigates ANZ over treasury-bond issuance May 12, 2024 11:03PM

(Reuters) - ANZ Group Holdings said on Monday Australia's corporate regulator is investigating the lender for suspected violation of laws in executing the issuance of 10-year treasury bonds by the Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) in 2023.

ANZ was appointed by the AOFM, which manages the Australian government's debt portfolio, to act as a risk manager in relation to the issuance of the treasury bonds.
