China dismisses as 'preposterous' claims of entry checks for phones May 28, 2024 12:02AM

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Assertions that all arrivals in China will face mobile telephone checks from July 1 are false, authorities said on Tuesday, dismissing them as distortions of the truth made by "anti-China forces".

On April 26, the state security ministry issued documents it said broadened the reach of law enforcement regulations and helped combat illegal activities that risk national security.

Papua New Guinea orders thousands to evacuate from path of 'active' landslide May 27, 2024 11:27PM

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate from the path of a still-active landslide in Papua New Guinea by the government on Tuesday, after parts of a mountain collapsed, burying an initial estimate of more than 2,000 people.

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's central bank held interest rates steady on Tuesday to ensure inflation pressures remain in check as authorities look to foster economic stability and lift growth following the South Asian nation's worst financial crisis in decades.

South Korea, US, Japan nuclear envoys condemn North Korea satellite launch May 27, 2024 10:20PM

SEOUL (Reuters) - The nuclear envoys of South Korea, the United States and Japan during a phone call on Tuesday strongly condemned the latest attempt by North Korea to launch a satellite, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

The failed launch was a direct violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions banning the North's use of ballistic missile technology and posed a serious threat to regional peace and security, it said.
