Bear Stearns Companies Inc. (NYSE: BSC) 2.5% HIGHER; Joseph Lewis/Aquarian Investments disclosed a 6.97% stake (8,096,942 shares) in the company. The aggregate purchase price for the 8,096,942 shares was approximately $860,403,183. Lewis is a British billionaire and is the 486th richest person in the world according to Forbes' 2006 list.

Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) 2% HIGHER; boosts revenue forecast range. Sees Q3 revenues of $9.4-$9.8 billion, had seen $9-$9.6 billion.

Blue Coat Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI) 1.5% LOWER; Stifel Nicolaus downgrades Blue Coat Systems to Hold saying while fundamentals remains positive, the risk/reward is more challenging.

Countrywide Financial (NYSE: CFC) 1.2% LOWER; announced plans for a workforce reduction of 10,000 to 12,000 over the next three months representing up to 20 percent of its current workforce.

Central Garden & Pet Company (NASDAQ: CENT) INDICATED LOWER; announced that it will offer 10,000,000 shares of Class A common stock to the public. Central also announced that it currently expects operating earnings for the fiscal fourth quarter ended September 29, 2007 to be in the range of $0.07 to $0.09 per fully diluted share and for fiscal 2007 to be in the range of $0.54 to $0.56 per fully diluted share, excluding any unforeseen year-end adjustments or non-cash charges. The consensus is $0.12 and $0.61.
