Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) could be headed lower again today following the introduction of its chief rival: Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 4.

Macquarie analyst Damian Thong couldn't agree more. He said that Sony's offering is more powerful than Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One (and better looking, he notes), costs $100 less ($399 versus $499 for the Xbox), and has no digital rights management restrictions for used games.

Thong sees Sony grabbing market share from Microsoft and Nintendo with the latest round of next-generation gaming consoles.

Overall, Thong also doesn't see mobile gaming attracting users away from the high-performance gaming arena.

Shares of Sony ended Monday's session up 2.8 percent, while Microsoft finished about 0.6 percent lower. Both companies detailed respective gaming consoles during E3 Conference media previews on Monday.

Sony's PS4 press release is here, while Microsoft's is here.
