Google Glass (Nasdaq: GOOG) is expected to have 16GB of NAND capacity, which could benefit SanDisk (Nasdaq: SNDK) and Micron (Nasdaq: MU) if the product is a success, thinks RBC Capital analyst Doug Freedman.
"While initial price point of $1,500 would need to be considerably reduced, should adoption eventually become material, we believe that NAND stands to be the largest beneficiary," said Freedman. "While we see content loadings in smartphone and tablets beginning to plateau, the introduction of a new consumer gadget (glasses in this case) requiring near the same capacity as smartphone, would be a catalyst for the industry."
Google isn't the only company planning gadgets. Sony (NYSE: SNE), Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), Samsung, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) have similar efforts in the works, and while it may be far too early to know how consumers will react to the new devices, news that Google Glass contains 16GB of NAND underscores the importance of on-board memory in next-gen devices, thinks the analyst.
