Yesterday, Ford's (NYSE: F) CEO, Alan Mulally, spoke in Detroit at The National Summit. Yes, Mulally jokingly said he drove to The Summit, no corporate jet. The National Summit was a forum where many Fortune 500 company CEOs gathered to discuss the economic climate and the future.
Mulally was mobbed by over 40 reporters after the conclusion of his speech, but StreetInsider spoke exclusively to Mulally before he left to get back to the business of Ford.
Below are a couple of the questions we asked Mulally regarding Ford and its outlook.
SI: Any plans for Ford to issue more equity in the near-term?
AM: Ford will continue to strengthen its balance sheet as the opportunity presents itself and at the right time.
SI: What signs do you see strengthening in the auto market heading into July, August and September (said yesterday on CNBC)?
AM: More showroom visits and strengthening sales. Ford is reporting strong numbers as most of its competitors are struggling.
SI: How do you feel about Government-owned GM (NYSE: GM) and Chrysler?
AM: We want them to do well. If they don't do well, then we will lose part of our supplier base. We need successful auto manufacturers to have a vibrant supplier community.
On a final note, Mulally pays attention to the details and at same time can focus intensely at the big picture. After talking and meeting with Ford's Mulally, I hope he does succeed at the company, and I think he will have many success at Ford, just like he did at Boeing (NYSE: BA).
