U.S. house prices rose 1.3 percent in the first quarter of 2014 according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) House Price Index (HPI). This is the eleventh consecutive quarterly price increase in the purchase-only, seasonally adjusted index.

April New Home Sales increased 433 thousand vs 425 thousand expected. Sales increased 6.4% month-over-month compared to a revised March total of 407 thousand.

Existing-home sales increased for the first time this year in April, while inventory meaningfully increased and home price growth moderated, according to the National Association of Realtors®. Monthly sales gains in the West and South offset a modest decline in the Midwest while the Northeast was unchanged.
