Meta Platforms (META) Earns Several Downgrades After Earnings, Shares Tumble 20%
October 27, 2022 5:56 AM EDTShares of Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) are down 20% in pre-market Thursday after the social media giant delivered a big EPS miss and issued disappointing revenue guidance.
Meta reported an EPS of $1.64 on revenue of $27.71 billion. This compares to the FactSet consensus of EPS of $1.93 on sales of $27.57 billion. Overall, revenue fell 4% with Facebook parent blaming FX headwinds.
Moreover, higher-than-expected costs weighed on Metas Q3 profit. Costs and expenses were reported at $22.05 billion, an increase of 19% year-over-year. The total number of employees rose 28% year-over-year to 87,314. Meta said it expects its 2023 headcount to... More

Meta stock craters over bleak forecast and expensive metaverse bets

(Reuters) - Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc on Wednesday forecast a weak holiday quarter and significantly more costs next year, sending shares down nearly 20% as investors voiced skepticism about the company's pricey metaverse bets.
The forecast knocked about $67 billion off Meta's stock market value in extended trade, adding to the more than half a trillion dollars in value already lost this year.
If Meta's after-hours stock rout is matched in Thursday's trading session, it will have been its deepest one-day loss since Feb. 2, when the company last issued a dismal forecast.
