Drugmaker Sanofi expects further profit growth from narrowed focus

PARIS (Reuters) - French drugmaker Sanofi on Thursday forecast further profit growth for 2020 even as it drops some research in areas such as diabetes in a shake-up to narrow its focus on blockbuster treatments including eczema medicine Dupixent.
Sanofi, long viewed as a laggard in the pharmaceutical sector, has changed its chief executive, its chief financial officer and head of research over the past two years and is hoping to shine again thanks to the pipeline shake-up and cost cuts.

Sanofi investigated over epilepsy drug linked to birth defects
February 4, 2020 2:07 AM ESTPARIS (Reuters) - French drugmaker Sanofi said on Tuesday it was being investigated over Depakine, an epilepsy drug which caused birth malfunctions and slow neurological development when taken during pregnancy.
The Paris prosecutor had already launched a preliminary investigation into the authorization and marketing of Depakine in 2016, after France's social affairs inspection agency IGAS criticized the slow response of health authorities and Sanofi to the risks related to the drug and its derivatives.
