Nielsen's (NASDAQ: NLSN) year-long review of strategic alternatives has finally come to a close. Instead of selling itself, in whole or in part, the media company believes the best path forward is to spin-off its Global Connect business. This will create two independent, publicly-traded companies - the Global Media business and the Global Connect business. Further, the company reduced its dividend 83 percent in an effort to strengthen the balance sheets of the two companies ahead of the separation. Large holder Elliott Management supports the plan.

Nielsen Holdings (NYSE: NLSN) reported Q3 EPS of $0.51, $0.09 better than the analyst estimate of $0.42. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.62 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.61 billion.

3rd quarter revenues were $1,616 million, up 1.0%, or 2.4% on a constant currency basis, compared to the prior year. Nielsen Holdings plc (NYSE: NLSN) announced today the completion of its strategic review and its plan to spin-off the company's Global Connect business, creating two independent, publicly traded companies - the Global Media business and the Global Connect business - each of which will have sharper strategic focus and greater opportunity to leverage its unique competitive advantages.
