Evercore ISI Lowers Estimates on Universal Display (OLED) But Sees Costs Coming Down and Still Sees Two Apple OLED Models in 2018

In a note to clients earlier today, Evercore ISI analyst C.J. Muse weighed in on the recent weakness in Universal Display (NASDAQ: OLED) which is down 16% vs the SOX up 1%. Muse believes this weakness is related to 1) news reports of Samsung indefinitely delaying investment plans in A5 OLED facility, 2) fears of AAPL shifting display strategy back to LCD after iPhone X disappointment, and 3. news of Chinese handset OEMs focusing on cost competitive LCD as customers are not willing to eat the additional cost of OLED.
