WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New U.S. single-family home sales unexpectedly surged in July, reaching their highest level in nearly nine years amid robust demand, brightening the housing market outlook and bolstering views that economic growth will pick up in the third quarter.

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose modestly on Tuesday, as gains in the tech sector helped buoy the Nasdaq to a record intraday high and solid housing market data provided more evidence the economy may be picking up momentum.

(Reuters) - Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE: BBY) shares rose 19 percent on Tuesday after the retailer reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by stronger online sales and a housing recovery that sparked demand for items like televisions and refrigerators.

The largest U.S. electronics retailer also raised its fiscal-year earnings outlook and reported a surprise increase in sales at stores open at least a year.

Best Buy (BBY) Tops Q2 EPS by 14c; Comps Outpace

Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) reported Q2 EPS of $0.57, $0.14 better than the analyst estimate of $0.43. Revenue for the quarter came in at $8.53 billion versus the consensus estimate of $8.4 billion.

Comps rose 0.8 percent, versus expectations of a 0.5 percent drop.

Enterprise comps rose 0.8 percent, while the Street was looking for a 0.6 percent drop.
