SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) reported a steeper than expected quarterly loss on Wednesday on higher spending at its vehicle and battery factories, and said adjusted profitability could be within sight if the company meets its delivery goals.

Tesla (TSLA) Posts Q2 Loss of $1.06/Share; Deliveries Were 14,402 Units

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) reported Q2 EPS of ($1.06), $0.50 worse than the analyst estimate of ($0.56).
Revenue was $1.3 billion, versus the consensus of $1.62 billion.
In Q2, we delivered 14,402 new vehicles consisting of 9,764 Model S and 4,638 Model X, which was slightly higher than what we stated in our July announcement.
