CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Northern Trust Corporation today reported first quarter net income per diluted common share of $1.01, compared to $0.94 in the first quarter of 2015 and $0.99 in the fourth quarter of 2015. Net income was $241.8 million, compared to $230.7 million in the prior-year quarter and $239.3 million in the prior quarter. Return on average common equity was 11.4%, compared to 11.3% in the prior-year quarter and 11.1% in the prior quarter.
