Audi tops U.S. Consumer Reports vehicle ratings as Tesla falls

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - German luxury automaker Audi on Tuesday topped the annual ranking of new vehicles by influential U.S. magazine Consumer Reports despite the brand's emissions-cheating scandal while quality problems hurt Tesla Motors Inc's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model S luxury car.

Audi was followed by Fuji Heavy Industries' Subaru unit, Toyota Motor Corp's Lexus brand, Porsche and BMW AG .

Volkswagen AG's Audi unit was named best overall brand, based on the magazine's road testing, reliability, safety and owner satisfaction scores.

Telsa Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) is looking for some of its customers to take a stand against General Motors (NYSE: GM).

Reports out early Tuesday have Tesla sending the following letter to owners and enthusiasts on its mailing list in Indiana. In particular, the letter notes that an upcoming bill being voted upon would bar any manufacturer from holding a dealer license in the state after 2017. Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) has appointed Sterling Anderson the company's new Director of Autopilot Programs.
