February 23, 2016 8:03 AM ESTDougherty & Co analyst, Charles Anderson, is trying to see the forest instead of the weak 1Q tree that represents FitBit's (NYSE: FIT) weak near term guidance. Full year guidance is ahead of expectations despite 1Q being far weaker. This puts a high dependence on new product adoption which makes channel checks in 2Q all the more important. (Reuters) - Fitbit Inc's (NYSE: FIT) current-quarter profit forecast missed Wall Street estimates by a wide margin, as the wearable fitness device maker aggressively invests in new products, sending its shares down more than 16 percent in after-hours trading.
The lackluster guidance overshadowed the company's comfortable quarterly revenue and profit beat in the holiday shopping season.
Fitbit has been diversifying its portfolio of colorful wristbands and clippable devices that track calories, sleeping patterns and heart rate, to better compete with rivals as well as to tap new markets and demographies.

(Reuters) - Wall Street stocks slid on Tuesday, hurt by pressure from a renewed drop in oil prices, undercutting momentum that had helped the market rebound from a sluggish start to the year.
The major U.S. indexes closed down more than 1 percent. Crude prices settled down more than 4 percent as Saudi Oil Minister Ali Al-Naimi effectively ruled out production cuts anytime soon.
Equity markets this year have been tightly linked to the daily fluctuations of battered oil prices. Energy shares tumbled 3.2 percent on Tuesday, leading declines among S&P sectors.
