U.S. inflation turning corner; factory output rises

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. consumer prices increased in October after two straight months of declines as the cost of healthcare and other services rose, evidence of firming inflation that further supports views that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates next month.
The economic outlook also got a boost from other data on Tuesday showing a fairly solid increase in manufacturing output in October after dropping for two consecutive months.

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks forfeited gains on Tuesday after a soccer match between Germany and the Netherlands was called off over fears of a bombing.
All three major U.S. indexes had ventured into positive territory following upbeat earnings reports from Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) and Home Depot (NYSE: HD). But they quickly relinquished those gains after the friendly match was canceled less than two hours before its start due to indications of a planned attack with explosives at the stadium in Hanover.

Wal-mart (WMT) Tops Q3 EPS by 1c; U.S. Comps Rose 1.5%

Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) reported Q3 EPS of $0.99, $0.01 better than the analyst estimate of $0.98. Revenue for the quarter came in at $117.4 billion versus the consensus estimate of $117.79 billion.
Profit from continuing operations was $1.03 in the quarter.
Comp sales at Walmart U.S. were positive for the fifth consecutive quarter, up 1.5%. Traffic increased 1.7%. Customer experience scores continued to strengthen. (Reuters) - Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc on Monday said it reduced its stake in Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS) by 13 percent during the third quarter, paring a successful investment it made during the height of the global financial crisis.
In a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Berkshire said it owned 10.96 million Goldman shares worth about $1.9 billion as of Sept. 30, down from 12.63 million shares worth $2.64 billion three months earlier.

(Reuters) - Wall Street had its strongest session in three weeks on Monday, with sizeable gains in energy shares as investors bet Friday's deadly attacks in Paris would have little long-term impact on the U.S. economy and corporate earnings.
U.S. oil prices rose after French air strikes in Syria in reaction to multiple attacks in Paris on Friday that killed 129 people, with Islamic State claiming responsibility.
Exxon's (NYSE: XOM) shares jumped 3.58 percent and Chevron (NYSE: CVX) rallied 4.38 percent.
