P&G sees organic sales growth from current quarter

(Reuters) - Procter & Gamble Co (NYSE: PG) reported a higher-than-expected quarterly profit and said it expected organic sales to grow from the current quarter as it moves through a "portfolio cleanup."

The company has been shrinking the number of its brands to focus on more profitable lines such as Gillette shaving products, Pampers diapers and Tide detergent.

Shares of P&G, which sold 43 brands to Coty Inc (NYSE: COTY) in July, rose as much as 4.8 percent on Friday.

Techs lead Wall St. higher; S&P 500 erases 2015 loss

(Reuters) - A tech share rally drove U.S. stocks up sharply for a second day on Friday as earnings from companies including Microsoft beat analysts' expectations, while healthcare shares rebounded from recent losses.

The gains left the S&P 500 in positive territory for the year and above its 200-day moving average for the first time since Aug. 19.

An unexpected rate cut in China added to the positive tone for U.S. stocks, which also registered gains for the week.

Procter & Gamble (PG) Tops Q1 EPS by 2c

Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) reported Q1 EPS of $0.98, $0.02 better than the analyst estimate of $0.96. Revenue for the quarter came in at $16.5 billion versus the consensus estimate of $17.35 billion.

Beauty segment organic sales decreased two percent as lower organic volume was partially offset by a positive one percent impact from both pricing and mix.
