Is Nokia (NOK) Mimicking Apple (AAPL) with Latest Lumia Release? (MSFT)

Are Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) taking a page from the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) playbook?
According to reports out Friday, supply of the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Lumia 1520 is said to be short ahead of the devices official launch.
WPC said today that customers are receiving emails and text messages from Nokia notifying of a delay in shipping the device. One message read:
Because of overwhelming demand, your Nokia Lumia 1520 order is delayed in shipping. As soon as your shipping label is printed, we’ll send you an email with the tracking information. You can also track your order on our site.
Shipping of the Lumia 1520 is said to begin around December 2nd now, from earlier expectations of a November ship date. Some customers are receiving a $25 Microsoft Store gift card.
While it wasn't made clear what could be causing the delay, which is probably attributed to manufacturing bottlenecks, the situation looks similar to something Apple has begun to face recently. The launch of Apple's iPhone 5 in 2012 left some unhappy given supply constraints on that device, while Apple has moved to fix such issues with the recent launch of its iPhone 5s and 5c. The company is still having trouble meeting demand for the iPad mini with Retina display. The issues stem from Apple's advancement of technology and manufacturers unable to ramp manufacturing technology quickly enough to meet standards and do so at a high enough volume.
While it might not be a marketing tactic, it might be fun to speculate that Apple (and now Nokia) held off of supply simply to boost controversy and demand.
