The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE: HIG) announced that its board of directors has named company President A. Morris "Mo" Tooker as its next chief executive officer, succeeding Christopher Swift. Both appointments take effect March 1, 2027.

Tooker will also join the board of directors effective Oct. 1, 2026. Swift will transition to the role of executive chair, a position he intends to hold through the second half of 2027.

Tooker joined The Hartford in 2015 as chief underwriting officer and has held roles of increasing responsibility over the past 11 years. In his current role as president, he has overseen business performance, strategy, and enterprise-wide execution.

"Mo combines strategic vision with disciplined execution," said Trevor Fetter, lead independent director of The Hartford's board. "He has consistently delivered profitable growth, advanced customer-centered innovation, upheld underwriting rigor and built strong, aligned teams."

Swift has served as CEO for nearly 13 years and as chairman for more than 12 years. As executive chair, he will lead the board, advise the incoming CEO, and help oversee corporate strategy.

"It has been an honor to serve as CEO of this iconic company," Swift said. "Mo is an outstanding leader, remarkable person and a trusted industry authority."

The Hartford, headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut, provides property and casualty insurance and employee benefits. The announcement was made in a press release issued by the company.
