NASA awards SpaceX $946M for three more ISS crew missions
NASA has awarded SpaceX three additional crew transportation missions to the International Space Station through a contract modification worth $946 million, according to a statement from the agency.
The modification covers Crew-15, Crew-16, and Crew-17 missions and brings SpaceX's total missions under the Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contract to 17. The total CCtCap contract value with SpaceX now stands at $5.92 billion.
The firm fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract modification includes ground, launch, in-orbit, return and recovery operations, cargo transportation, and a lifeboat capability while docked to the station. The period of performance runs through 2030.
NASA noted the current sole source modification does not preclude the agency from seeking future contract modifications for additional transportation services.
NASA awarded CCtCap contracts to Boeing and SpaceX in 2014 as part of its Commercial Crew Program. SpaceX was certified for crew transportation in November 2020. The company's Crew-12 mission is currently docked to the space station. SpaceX uses its Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to transport up to four astronauts and cargo to the station.
