SK hynix Inc., whose shares trade on the Korea Exchange and American Depositary Shares on Nasdaq, announced the launch of a corporate venture capital (CVC) brand called "SK hynix Ventures," aimed at expanding investment across the global AI ecosystem.
To mark the launch, the company held an inaugural "SK hynix Ventures Day" event in Silicon Valley, attended by CEO Kwak Noh-Jung, senior executives, representatives from global venture capital firms, and startup executives. The event focused on investment strategies and potential technological cooperation in areas including AI computing, data centers, system software, and optical interconnect.
SK hynix has operated a CVC organization since 2015, making direct investments and fund commitments in early-stage startups across the semiconductor and emerging technology sectors in the U.S., China, Israel, and Japan. According to the company, cumulative returns have exceeded twice the total amount invested to date.
The company stated that its previous CVC activities centered on identifying future technology trends and new business opportunities. Under the SK hynix Ventures brand, the company plans to broaden its investment scope beyond semiconductors to encompass the wider AI ecosystem, including AI data centers and optical-based systems.
"Competitiveness in the AI era stems not just from rapidly securing innovative technologies, but from ecosystem capabilities where customers, partners, and startups create new value together," said Kwak Noh-Jung, CEO of SK hynix.
