Wetour Robotics demos sEMG and vision system for robot training data
Wetour Robotics Limited (NASDAQ: WETO) released a development demonstration of its Orchestra system, which combines surface electromyography (sEMG) with first-person vision to capture human hand movement data intended for robot training.
The system pairs Conductor, an 8-channel sEMG wristband, with VisionLink, a first-person camera. The two signals are designed to complement each other: the camera captures spatial position and scene context, while sEMG captures muscle activation and remains available when the hand is hidden from the camera's view.
According to the company, a vision-only pipeline failed to locate the hand in 21.8% of frames during an internal carrying task, including a continuous dropout of 4.32 seconds. The Orchestra architecture is designed to use sEMG data during those visual gaps, though the cross-modal correction strategy remains in validation.
"Physical AI needs more than video. A camera can show where a hand moved, but not how hard it worked, and it can go blind at the exact moment contact happens," said Nan Zheng, Chief Executive Officer of Wetour Robotics.
The system's on-device model outputs 20 joint angles per hand. In an internal benchmark, processing a one-second sEMG window took 50.4 milliseconds, a figure the company states reflects model processing time rather than end-to-end system latency.
A force-estimation pipeline is designed to convert sEMG signals into kilogram-equivalent grasp-force estimates using a scale as a calibration reference. The company states the pipeline has been validated on synthetic data, while validation using live wristband recordings remains under development.
The demonstration covers five tasks: packing a lunch box, sorting pills, disassembling a pen, measuring a drone with calipers, and installing a drone propeller. These tasks were selected for their combination of precision, variable hand effort, and frequent visual occlusion.
