Health Canada approves Sunshine Biopharma's generic Atenolol tablets

Sunshine Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ: SBFM) announced that Health Canada has approved its Atenolol tablets in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg doses for the Canadian market, according to a company press release.

Atenolol is a beta-blocker and the generic equivalent of the brand-name drug Tenormin. It is indicated for managing hypertension, treating angina pectoris, and improving survival rates following a heart attack.

The company said it anticipates the product will be ready to ship to Canadian pharmacies by the end of 2026. Distribution will be handled through its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary, Nora Pharma Inc.

According to Research and Markets, the global Atenolol market was valued at $12.45 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $17.85 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 7.3%.

Sunshine Biopharma currently markets 60 generic prescription drugs in Canada and expects to launch approximately 12 additional drugs before the end of 2026.
