Papa Johns refranchises 28 Orlando-area stores to franchisee Wade Oney

Papa John's International, Inc. (Nasdaq: PZZA) has completed the sale of 28 corporate-owned restaurants in the Orlando area to franchisee Wade Oney, according to a company press release.

The restaurants, previously owned and operated by Papa Johns USA, Inc., are now held by PZZA Group, LLC and Magic City Pizzerias, LLC, both led by Oney. The transaction is part of Papa Johns' broader effort to refranchise corporate-owned locations to established franchise operators.

With the acquisition, Oney now operates more than 120 Papa Johns restaurants. He opened 10 new locations across Central and South Florida in 2025. Oney has been affiliated with Papa Johns for 35 years and previously served as the company's Chief Operations Officer for six years.

"We're excited to expand our portfolio of Papa Johns restaurants and look forward to serving even more customers in Central Florida," Oney said.

John Matter, Global Chief Development Officer and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Papa Johns, referenced Oney's record as a franchise operator in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Papa Johns operates approximately 6,000 restaurants across roughly 50 countries and territories and is co-headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and Louisville, Kentucky.
