SciSparc unit files U.S. patent for MDMA-PEA combination for PTSD

SciSparc Ltd. (NASDAQ: SPRC) announced that its subsidiary, NeuroThera Labs Inc. (TSXV: NTLX), and its collaborator Clearmind Medicine Inc. (NASDAQ: CMND) have had a U.S. patent application published covering a combination of MDMA and N-acylethanolamines, such as palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), for potential use in treating post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and eating disorders.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office published the application, which covers embodiments relating to the potential use of PEA in combination with MDMA, including potential effects on therapeutic potency, required dosing, side effects, and therapeutic window.

According to the company's statement, the collaboration between NeuroThera and Clearmind has generated a total of thirteen published patent applications globally. NeuroThera's PEA technology is integrated into Clearmind's psychedelic-derived therapeutic programs as part of the joint intellectual property portfolio.

The patent publication coincides with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration finalizing its guidance titled "Psychedelic Drugs: Considerations for Clinical Investigations" on July 14, 2026. The guidance explicitly includes MDMA within its definition of psychedelic drugs, categorizing it as an "entactogen or empathogen." It addresses clinical trial design, conduct, data collection, subject safety, and new drug application requirements for sponsors developing psychedelic drugs.

The FDA noted that psychedelic drugs can present unique challenges in clinical development due to their psychoactive effects and alterations in mood, cognition, and perception.
