B&G Foods, Inc. (NYSE: BGS) said Canada's Competition Bureau has asked the Competition Tribunal to block its pending sale of the Green Giant and Le Sieur frozen and shelf-stable business in Canada to Nortera.
In a statement, the Parsippany, New Jersey-based company said it disagrees with the decision and believes "the available evidence supports that this transaction is in the best interests of all interested stakeholders, including the Canadian consumer."
B&G Foods said it remains in discussions with Nortera and is evaluating options including potential legal, regulatory, and operational alternatives. The company said it is committed to maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
