Canadian Solar wins dismissal of Maxeon patent suit over solar tech

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) announced that a U.S. patent infringement lawsuit filed by Maxeon Solar Pte. Ltd. has been resolved in its favor, with the case dismissed with prejudice by the Federal District Court.

The dispute originated from a March 2024 lawsuit in which Maxeon alleged that Canadian Solar infringed three patents related to TOPCon solar cell technology. In January 2026, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued Final Written Decisions finding all of Maxeon's asserted patent claims invalid. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit subsequently vacated the relevant portion of the PTAB decision relating to Maxeon's remaining claim.

Canadian Solar Chief Executive Officer Colin Parkin said, "We are very pleased with the resolution of these proceedings, which affirms Canadian Solar's continued ability to compete through technology and manufacturing leadership."

Canadian Solar is headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, and has been listed on the Nasdaq since 2006.
