Tyson Foods to close two beef plants, sell a third

Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN) announced it will restructure its beef operations by closing two facilities and pursuing the sale of a third, according to a press release dated Aug. 13, 2026.

The company said it will end operations at its Joslin, Illinois, beef facility and its Eagle Mountain, Utah, case-ready facility. Tyson Foods is also pursuing the sale of its Pasco, Washington, beef facility.

The company said it will concentrate its beef business around three facilities in the central United States: Dakota City, Nebraska; Holcomb, Kansas; and Amarillo, Texas. As part of the restructuring, Tyson Foods plans to resume a second shift at its Amarillo facility as cattle supply allows.

Tyson Foods cited ongoing cattle supply constraints as a factor in the decision, referencing recent USDA cattle inventory data that indicated limited heifer retention and the likelihood that supply restrictions will continue. The company said the restructured network will allow it to maintain a similar level of cattle harvesting across fewer locations.

The company said it is committed to helping affected employees apply for open positions at other facilities. Tyson Foods did not disclose the number of workers affected by the closures.
