L3Harris opens $6M naval training facility in Providence, R.I.

L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has opened a 50,000-square-foot maritime production facility at ProvPort in Providence, Rhode Island, following a $6 million investment. The facility is intended to design, produce, and deliver undersea training systems for the U.S. Navy and allied forces, according to a company statement.

Nino DiCosmo, President of Maritime, Space & Mission Systems at L3Harris, said the facility positions the company to meet demand for undersea training and readiness "with the speed and scale our customers require." He cited ProvPort's location and access to a skilled maritime workforce as strategic advantages.

The company said the site will support job creation through local partnerships, port operations, and specialized maritime services. L3Harris noted it will partner with Waterson Terminal Services to utilize local Longshoremen expertise in offshore wind cable management.

L3Harris has operated in Rhode Island since 1991, with its Ashaway facility producing undersea sensor systems and military sonar for the U.S. Navy.

Several Rhode Island lawmakers, including Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Reps. Gabe Amo and Seth Magaziner, commented on the facility's opening, citing potential contributions to the state's defense economy and workforce.
