Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) has been awarded $7.8 million in funding through the 2026 America Makes and Department of War Organic Industrial Base Modernization Challenge, according to a press release from the company.
The 24-month program will fund development of in-situ quality assurance capabilities for Stratasys' F3300™ and F900® industrial FDM® platforms. The initiative aims to enable manufacturers to capture real-time process data during additive manufacturing builds, with the goal of reducing reliance on post-build inspection and qualification processes.
America Makes, a public-private partnership focused on additive manufacturing, is administering the program, which targets projects that advance manufacturing capabilities for defense industrial base modernization.
"The next phase of additive manufacturing adoption within the defense industrial base is about moving from isolated applications to qualified, scalable production," said John Wilczynski, Executive Director of America Makes. "Stratasys' work to advance in-situ monitoring on established polymer production platforms addresses a critical part of that challenge."
Rich Garrity, Chief Business Unit Officer at Stratasys, said the initiative is intended to help manufacturers scale additive production by providing quality data during the build process to reduce qualification friction and expand production capacity.
The project will focus on developing monitoring capabilities for the two platforms to identify potential anomalies during production and generate documentation to support quality decisions. The resulting capabilities are expected to target manufacturers in defense, aerospace, commercial aviation and other regulated industrial markets.
