Americold expands direct-to-consumer cold chain fulfillment network

Americold Realty Trust (NYSE: COLD) announced it is expanding its ecommerce fulfillment capabilities across its cold chain network to support food producers and brands selling directly to consumers, according to a company press release.

The Atlanta-based temperature-controlled logistics company said its platform has shipped more than one million direct-to-consumer packages over the past year, with double-digit growth recorded during that period. Americold currently operates ecommerce fulfillment across five U.S. sites, which it says can reach approximately 99.5% of the U.S. population within two days.

The company cited its work with Good Ranchers, a direct-to-consumer protein provider, as an example of its fulfillment model in practice. Americold said it handles order preparation, packaging, and shipment at the individual consumer level for Good Ranchers while maintaining temperature integrity throughout the supply chain.

"Americold is an extension of our business," said Ben Spell, Founder and CEO of Good Ranchers. "Their ability to execute at a high level, especially as our volumes have grown, has allowed us to focus on building our brand and serving our customers."

Supporting the fulfillment operations is Americold's proprietary SmarTrakr platform, which the company says provides real-time inventory visibility, fulfillment intelligence, and shipment tracking.

"Our customers are looking to reach consumers more directly, but doing that at scale in the cold chain requires a different level of execution," said Rob Chambers, Chief Executive Officer of Americold. "We are extending our role in the supply chain to support that growth, bringing the same reliability and operating discipline our customers expect across more complex, consumer-facing models."

Americold operates more than 220 facilities across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America, totaling approximately 1.4 billion refrigerated cubic feet.
