Vishay launches IR receiver series with wide frequency range

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has introduced the TSOP15300 series of infrared receiver modules designed to receive and demodulate remote control signals across a modulation frequency range of 30 kHz to 68 kHz, according to a company press release.

Standard IR receivers are typically tuned to a single center frequency, requiring multiple components to support different remote control code sets. The TSOP15300 series is designed to work with all major remote control codes using a single component, which Vishay says reduces component counts, lowers system costs, and saves board space.

The devices are intended for use in consumer electronics including televisions, audio systems, gaming consoles, soundbars, set-top boxes, and video projectors. Each receiver integrates a photodetector, preamplifier circuit, and IR filter in a 4-pin Heimdall package. The demodulated output signal connects directly to a microprocessor for decoding.

Key specifications include a supply voltage range of 2.0 V to 5.5 V, a typical supply current of 0.35 mA, and a maximum irradiance of 0.2 mW/m² at 45 kHz. When paired with a 50 mA emitter, the receivers support transmission distances of up to 18 m. The series also provides immunity against ripple noise and interference from CFL lamps, LCD televisions, and onboard Wi-Fi antennas.

The TSOP15300 series is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free. Samples and production quantities are available, with a lead time of six weeks.
