Syntec Optics receives fusion energy order, hits $4M in data center sales

August 3, 2026 8:40 AM EDT

Syntec Optics Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTX) announced it has received a new order for optics used in fusion energy reactors, with the order valued at seven times more than a comparable order received in late 2025, according to a company press release.

The Rochester, New York-based optical components manufacturer said cumulative orders for products used in AI data centers have surpassed $4 million since the company entered that market approximately two years ago. The data center product range includes fusion energy optics, micro-connectors, and space-power sub-systems.

Syntec said it plans to allocate 5% of its factory capacity to the production of AI data center optics on an ongoing basis.

The company said its fusion optics are used in compact fusion reactors, where they serve a diagnostic function by monitoring conditions inside the reactor. Syntec did not name the fusion reactor customer in the announcement.

Matt Carey, a company executive, said in a statement: "Adding to our expanding portfolio, we proved in Q4 2025 that we have the mastery to deliver the extreme precision optics required for fusion energy."

Dean Rudy, Syntec's CFO, said: "Tech giants are purchasing millions of watts of fusion star power—and using next-level AI to hack the reactor controls to accelerate the production timeline. That's a total game-changer, and that is why fusion optics is a significant part of our game plan."

The press release cited Goldman Sachs estimates that energy needs will double in 2026 from 2025 levels, and IDTechEx estimates that investments in fusion energy have reached $9 billion.

Syntec Optics employs approximately 180 people and manufactures precision optics and photonics components for defense, space, and data center applications.
