Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CNK) reported that the weekend of July 31 through August 2 was its largest domestic box office weekend on record, driven by the opening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and a holdover performance from The Odyssey.
According to a company press release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivered Cinemark's highest-grossing single-title three-day domestic opening, surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The weekend also produced record three-day U.S. results for several of Cinemark's premium formats, including Cinemark XD large-format screens, ScreenX 270-degree panoramic screens, and D-BOX motion seats. Food and beverage revenue for the weekend also reached an all-time high for the company.
"Cinemark's outsized performance for Spider-Man: Brand New Day across our entire global circuit once again underscores how great films in immersive, shared theatrical settings have the ability to create must-see cultural events on a heroic scale," said Sean Gamble, President and CEO of Cinemark.
Cinemark operates nearly 500 theaters and more than 5,500 screens across 42 U.S. states and 13 countries in South and Central America.
