Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ: KTOS) has selected Rangeview Inc., an investment casting company based in El Segundo, California, to develop cast superalloy components for its turbine engine programs, according to a press release from Rangeview.
Under the funded development agreement, Rangeview will produce flight-quality cast superalloy hardware with shortened development lead times. The program targets a component category that the Department of Defense has identified as a gap in the domestic casting industrial base.
Russ Jones, Chief Engineer at Kratos, said Rangeview's process enables complex geometries that previously required laser powder bed additive manufacturing, while using cast superalloys. "This development approach is accelerating our engineering timelines while preserving the performance and material properties we need for advanced turbine applications," Jones said.
Stacey Rock, President of Kratos' Turbine Technologies Division, said the agreement is part of the company's supply chain strategy as it prepares for large-volume production of jet engines for drones and missiles.
The award expands Rangeview's portfolio of funded programs across U.S. propulsion, defense, and energy customers.
