BorgWarner wins motorcycle DCT contract in China, production set for 2027

BorgWarner (NYSE: BWA) has secured a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) program with a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, with production scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027, according to a company statement.

Under the contract, BorgWarner will supply an integrated DCT system that includes dual clutches, hydraulic control modules, and clutch control software for two-wheeled motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles with engine displacement above 500 cc.

The program marks a shift in BorgWarner's role from a component supplier to a systems solution provider, combining hardware and software in a single offering. The company said the arrangement is intended to support the customer's operations in China and potential expansion into Europe, North America, and other markets.

Henk Vanthournout, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Drivetrain and Morse Systems, said the company's passenger car DCT experience provides a foundation for motorcycle applications. "With our proven DCT expertise and systems integration capabilities, BorgWarner is well positioned to support our Chinese motorcycle customer in bringing its DCT solution to production," he said.

BorgWarner states it has delivered nearly 10 million passenger car DCT units to date. The company did not identify the Chinese motorcycle customer by name.
