Critical Metals Corp. (NASDAQ: CRML) announced that the Mrima Earth Limited Consortium, in which it serves as the lead party, has been shortlisted as one of three finalists from an initial field of seven bidders in the Kenyan government's competitive tender for the right to develop the Mrima Hill rare earth and niobium project in Kwale County, Kenya.
The Mrima Hill deposit is located on Kenya's southern coast with access to the Port of Mombasa. The project covers rare earth and niobium resources that the company describes as among the largest undeveloped deposits of its kind globally.
According to the press release, the Consortium includes ASX-listed European Lithium Ltd., which holds an approximately 31% interest in Critical Metals. Together, the companies report a combined market capitalization of approximately $1.5 billion and cash reserves exceeding $400 million. The company states the Consortium is fully funded through the project development stage and Phase 1 construction.
The Consortium's stated development plan involves parallel engineering, permitting, and procurement processes, along with early contractor mobilization and fast-tracked equipment procurement. The long-term plan includes production of separated rare earth oxides and neodymium-praseodymium magnets.
Tony Sage, Chairman of Critical Metals Corp., said: "Being shortlisted for the final stage of this process is a defining moment for Critical Metals and our Consortium. Mrima Hill is precisely the kind of world-class, strategically located asset we have built this Company to pursue, and it sits perfectly alongside Tanbreez, further strengthening our Western-aligned rare earth strategy."
Critical Metals Corp. also holds the Tanbreez rare earth project in Greenland and the Wolfsberg Lithium Project in Austria. The company said further updates on the Kenya tender process will be provided in due course.
