Modular Medical forms advisory council, names diabetes expert as chair

Modular Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: MODD) announced the formation of its Pivot Innovation Council, a group of clinicians and healthcare experts created to guide the company's clinical and commercial strategy for its Pivot tubeless patch pump.
The company appointed Robert Gabbay, MD, PhD, FACP as chair of the council. Gabbay has held leadership roles at the American Diabetes Association and Harvard's Joslin Diabetes Center, and has conducted research supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation.
According to a press release, the council is expected to provide guidance on target patient populations, clinical workflow integration, evidence generation, and product roadmap development as the company prepares for the commercial launch of the Pivot pump.
"The formation of the Pivot Innovation Council represents an important milestone for us, as we deepen our engagement with clinicians and healthcare stakeholders," said Jeb Besser, CEO of Modular Medical.
Gabbay earned a bachelor's degree from McGill University, a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and a medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He completed residency training at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism through a joint program involving Joslin Diabetes Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has also served as a visiting scientist at MIT and as a Professor of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine.
Modular Medical describes its Pivot tubeless patch pump as designed to simplify insulin delivery for people requiring intensive insulin therapy. The San Diego-based company is listed on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker MODD.
