OpenAI adds Nubank and BNY chiefs to its foundation boards
OpenAI has appointed David Vélez, founder and CEO of Nubank, and Robin Vince, Chairman and CEO of BNY, to the boards of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC, according to a statement from the organization.
Vélez founded Nubank in 2013 and has grown the digital bank to more than 135 million customers across Latin America. The company has received conditional approval to establish a U.S. national bank. Before founding Nubank, Vélez worked at Sequoia Capital, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and General Atlantic.
Vince has served as Chairman and CEO of BNY since 2022. Prior to that role, he spent 26 years at Goldman Sachs, holding positions including Chief Risk Officer, Treasurer, and CEO of Goldman Sachs International Bank.
Bret Taylor, Chair of both OpenAI boards, said the two executives bring experience that will support OpenAI as it expands its services globally. "Their experience will be invaluable as OpenAI serves more businesses and people around the world," Taylor said.
Vélez said he looks forward to contributing to efforts to bring AI to a broader audience. Vince said realizing AI's potential "requires creativity, strong governance, and responsible deployment."
