Astera Labs (Nasdaq: ALAB) announced an expansion of its Taurus family of signal conditioners, adding 3.2T Smart Retimers and Smart Redrivers built on the Open Compute Project (OCP) Signal Conditioner Standard Footprint, according to a company statement.
The new 16-lane devices support 200G-per-lane Ethernet, UALink, and ESUN connectivity and are aimed at hyperscalers, neoclouds, AI system providers, and network platform providers. The products are currently sampling.
A key feature of the expanded lineup is a "Smart Swap" capability, which allows customers to switch between Smart Retimers and Smart Redrivers without redesigning the board, as both devices share the same OCP-standard footprint. The company said this is intended to allow teams to defer hardware decisions later in a design cycle.
The Taurus Smart Redrivers are designed to include telemetry, diagnostics, and intelligent link management features, including temperature-compensating equalization, channel estimation, and eye monitoring. These capabilities are intended to help identify signal integrity issues and maintain link performance as conditions change.
Both product types will be managed through Astera Labs' COSMOS software, providing a unified workflow across design, debugging, and multi-vendor sourcing for on-board signal conditioners.
"By expanding the Taurus family with footprint-compatible x16 Smart Retimers and Smart Redrivers, we are giving customers a more flexible path to scaling denser AI infrastructure with stronger economics," said Adit Narasimha, senior vice president and general manager of the Signal Connectivity Group at Astera Labs.
AMD (Nasdaq: AMD) noted its collaboration with Astera Labs on open connectivity. "Our collaboration with Astera Labs on open connectivity helps customers build efficient, adaptable rack-scale systems," said Robert Hormuth, corporate vice president of Architecture and Strategy at AMD.
