Enphase Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENPH) announced on July 21, 2026, that European homeowners with second-generation IQ Battery 3T and IQ Battery 10T systems can now add home backup power and expand storage capacity without replacing their existing batteries.
The upgrade is available in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, and Finland. It is delivered through a software update to the IQ Gateway and requires configuration by an Enphase-certified installer using the Enphase Installer App.
Previously, second-generation IQ batteries operated only in grid-tied mode and did not provide power during grid outages. With the new capability, an IQ System Controller can be added to disconnect the home from the grid during an outage, allowing the solar and battery system to continue operating.
Homeowners have two upgrade options. The first allows them to add an IQ System Controller to enable backup. Single-phase homes can gain whole-home backup, while three-phase homes can back up a designated phase. The second option allows homeowners to add third-generation IQ Battery 5P units alongside existing batteries to increase storage capacity, with or without backup functionality. In three-phase homes, the IQ Battery 5P with FlexPhase technology can enable backup across all three phases when paired with an IQ System Controller.
"When customers choose Enphase, they are investing in more than an individual product — they are investing in a home energy platform designed to improve and expand over time," said Sabbas Daniel, senior vice president of sales at Enphase Energy. "Our customers can now combine batteries from different generations, add backup, and expand capacity without abandoning their original investment."
Enphase stated that all previously installed batteries remain covered under existing warranties. The company is based in Fremont, California.
