Jacobs wins UK nuclear planning contract for SMR sites

July 21, 2026 5:56 AM EDT

Jacobs (NYSE: J) has been selected by Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) to provide planning and consenting services for proposed small modular reactor (SMR) developments in the U.K., according to a press release from the Dallas-based company.

The work will initially focus on two sites: Gwyndod, formerly known as Wylfa Newydd, and Oldbury-on-Severn. Additional sites may be included as GBE-N expands its development plans. Planning subconsultant Quod will support Jacobs in delivering the services.

Jacobs will provide strategic planning, consent support and leadership for land-use planning activities, including Development Consent Order and Town and Country Planning Act applications. The scope also includes statutory stakeholder engagement and socio-economic and traffic and transport assessments.

GBE-N Chief Executive Simon Roddy said: "Continuing to deliver the first of the U.K.'s fleet of SMRs with pace and focus will require a deep understanding of the planning and consenting processes for energy infrastructure in the U.K., and I'm pleased to have appointed Jacobs and Quod to help us in this effort."

The appointment follows a separate selection of Jacobs by GBE-N to provide environmental services for potential SMR development at the Oldbury site. Jacobs also contributes to other U.K. nuclear programs, including Sizewell C, Hinkley Point C and Sellafield.

Jacobs employs more than 6,000 people across the U.K., operating from 15 core offices and more than 35 additional sites.
