US gas prices climb above $4 a gallon as oil surges amid Iran tensions

Investing.com -- Gasoline prices across the United States rose to an average of $4.10 per gallon today, up from $3.8720 a week ago, according to AAA data.

The jump follows a recent jump in oil prices amid growing military conflict between the U.S. and Iran. Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, briefly exceeded $90 per barrel this morning before falling back below $89.

Regional variations remain substantial. In Alaska, drivers pay around $4.65 per gallon on average, while California motorists face costs of approximately $5.50 per gallon.

Diesel prices have risen more sharply, reaching an average of $5.1080 per gallon, compared with $4.8750 a week earlier.

A 2022 AAA survey found that 59% of Americans would adjust their driving habits or lifestyle if gas prices reached $4 per gallon, a threshold that has now been crossed.
