Philippine Airlines selects GE Aerospace engines for 15 new Boeing 787s

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has selected GEnx-1B engines from GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) to power 15 new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft, with purchase rights for five additional planes, according to a company statement.

PAL, the Philippines' flag carrier, has been a GE Aerospace customer for over 50 years and currently operates 52 GE Aerospace and CFM-powered engines across its fleet, including GE90 engines on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and CFM56-5B engines on its Airbus A320s.

Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines and Services, said: "Philippine Airlines' selection of the GEnx engine for its new Boeing 787-10 fleet builds on our long-standing relationship and reflects the strength of our technology, services and support."

Lucio C. Tan III, President and Chief Operating Officer of PAL Holdings, Inc., said: "As we continue to invest in our fleet and expand our international network, GE Aerospace remains an important partner of Philippine Airlines."

GE Aerospace states that the GEnx engine has a 99.98% dispatch reliability rate and that over the past decade, upgrades to the engine's high-pressure turbine blades and combustor coating technology have more than doubled its time on wing in harsh environments. The GEnx-1B has surpassed 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years.
