Investing.com -- SMBC Aviation Capital placed a firm order for 100 aircraft from Airbus, including 65 A321neo and 35 A320neo planes. The agreement was finalized today at the Farnborough International Airshow.
The order will provide the company's airline customers with access to A320neo family aircraft deliveries extending into the mid-2030s, according to Peter Barrett, CEO of SMBC Aviation Capital. Barrett said the order reflects confidence in long-term demand for the A320neo family and builds on a 25-year partnership with Airbus.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said SMBC Aviation Capital's purchase demonstrates global market demand for the A320neo family as airlines select newer, more efficient aircraft to expand and update their fleets.
SMBC Aviation Capital ranks among the largest customers for the A320 Family. Combined with its parent company Sumitomo Corporation, the group has made over 900 total commitments directly from Airbus across all aircraft types.
The A320 Family has received more than 20,200 orders globally. The aircraft family offers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft.
