Amentum (NYSE: AMTM) has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to enter lease negotiations for a public-private AI data center and energy project at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, according to a press release from the company.

The proposed project would establish a 1-gigawatt AI data center supported by approximately 2 gigawatts of on-site energy generation. Power would initially come from natural gas, with a planned transition to advanced nuclear energy.

The project remains subject to finalization of the lease negotiations. No contract value or timeline was disclosed.

John Heller, Chief Executive Officer of Amentum, said the agreement provides "the opportunity to partner with the NNSA to deliver infrastructure that will help power the technologies shaping our nation's future."

Amentum is headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, and employs approximately 50,000 people across more than 70 countries.
